Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello will take the mound Wednesday with a lot more job security.

Following Boston's 8-0 win over the Phillies on Opening Day, the Red Sox announced that Porcello has signed a four-year extension with the club.

Porcello was entering the final year of a contract he signed with the Tigers, though the Red Sox traded for the 26-year-old right-hander this offseason. Previously, Porcello said he and the club were putting off contract talks during the regular season.

The new deal will put Porcello under contract with the Red Sox through 2019, with the new deal beginning in 2016. According to The Boston Globe, the four-year contract is worth $82.5 million

Orioles catcher Matt Wieters was able to throw and play catch in the outfield Wednesday while recovering from an elbow injury, reports MASN.com.

Wieters is currently on the 15-day DL with the elbow injury, but may not be ready to return when he is eligible. Wieters has been playing catch for the last week, trying to increase the distance every day, but doesn't know when he will be back.

"I know Matt's kind of thinking [for a return date]," Showalter said Monday. "We'll see. Until he starts throwing and [see] how he feels the next day. He's been throwing some, but [it would have to be] more strenuous."

Wieters will head to Sarasota for his rehab assignment rather than head to Baltimore after Wednesday's game.
